Raimonda’s Vertical tasting

During these days of confinement, we have dived in our private wine cellar and we have had the opportunity to taste all the vintages of our red wine Raimonda – DO Penedès- in a vertical tasting, from the first harvest of 1998 to the current one that we have in the market, the 2014. As one day Ferran Centelles said «without risk there is no glory», that is, when you uncover bottles of more than 20 years of aging, there is a risk that they can be no good. In this case all the wines were impeccable. Obviously in some the passage of time is noticeable, but the evolution in the bottle gives some very curious and special aromas.

In a first stage, from 1998 to 2001, we made it with cabernet sauvignon, merlot and tempranillo from our estate, and it aged in French and American barrels for eight months. In the following vintages we removed the tempranillo and lately we add syrah.

In a vertical tasting the same wine is tasted, but belonging to different vintages. It is highly recommended and educational to see the evolution of wine over time, something that we also do with our Corpinnat sparkling wines.
